Weekly Kiwanis Meeting

Barbara J. Essig M.Ed. is currently the Executive Director of The First Tee of Savannah. She assumed this role in May 2010, after moving to Savannah from Oakland California with the intent of retirement. She has always had a passion for teaching and empowering young people through education. Ms. Essig has been recognized as one of Oakland’s most effective educators – a visionary who “gets it done”! She is the founder of More Choices, Inc. a community based youth development and non-profit organization designed to impact the lives of young people by providing access to educational opportunities. She led the efforts to establish The First Tee Chapter for the Oakland Metropolitan Area, and as of December, 2008. The mission of the First Tee is to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.
